Loyalty  is a sense of unwavering devotion and total commitment to a relationship. It connotes an impregnable solidarity with someone, that is borne out of love and or great respect.  Apostle Paul said “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our LordRomans 8:38-39.

The truest test of loyalty is challenges, which provide possible excuses to severe  the relationship or do things that will undermine its integrity. Ruth stands out as a good example when it comes to loyalty. Faced with the death of her husband, and, with no hope of another in Naomi’s family, she chose to remain in the relationship. When asked to return to her people, Ruth resolutely said  do not urge me to leaveyou or to turn back from you. Where you go l will go, and where you stay l will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my GodRuth 1:16

The disciples remained loyal to Christ’s great commission even to the last drop of their blood. They passed the baton to committed faithfuls from one generation of believers to another till the time of that great Evangelist and preacher – Aime Semple McPherson. MacPherson, who founded the Foursquare Church, encapsulated the Gospel message into the fourfold doctrine, and twenty two tenets of faith of the Foursquare Movement. Believers, especially members of the Foursquare Church, are expected to be foot soldiers of Christ, preaching His Gospel faithfully without adding to or removing from it. This is loyalty.

As soldiers of Christ, we must
–  be courageous to defend our faith whatever it takes – Nehemiah 4:17-18
–  be honorable and worthy of the name of the Lord God – Genesis 39:9
–  assist the fallen comrade – Philemon 10-17
–  never accept defeat – Acts 4:18-20
–  adhere strictly to the codes of christian conduct – Galatians 5: 13-26
–  be loyal to the leadership of the Church – Romans 13:1-2

“It pays to serve Jesus, I speak from my heart, He’ll always be with us, if we do our part. There’s naught in this wide world can pleasure afford; There’s peace and contentment in serving the Lord.  I love Him far better than in days of yore; I’ll serve Him more truly than ever before. I’ll do as He bids me, whatever the cost, I’ll be a true soldier, I’ll die at my post.”
Lack of loyalty is disloyalty. It is counted as rebellion in the military and it is punishable with death. The same spiritual fate awaits the disloyal and the deserters who abandon their duty post in Christ.

The month of June is observed yearly as Loyalty Month by The  Foursquare  Gospel Church in Nigeria. It is a time to reflect on our individual and corporate  activities and strategies as an evangelical church. This is to ensure that they are strictly in line with the dictates of the word of God. To celebrate loyalty, Pastors in Foursquare exchange pulpits; also, the theme of the month and the messages are guided by the National leadership of the Church. I wish all of us a pleasantly memorable loyalty month.
