The Year of our Lord 2018 is not different from any other year. It has its share of thrills and trials, as well as bright sides and dark alleys. Its path is laden with both gold and explosive mines. What it will be to any one, man, woman, family or group will depend on how it is navigated, the choices made and the chances taken. It will be unwise to just take 2018 in stride, we must take authority over it.
Entering into the new year is like entering into an unknown country. It is similar to a blind man seeking treasures in a strange and unfamiliar land. His success or otherwise will depend on the information at his disposal, and, most importantly, on who his guide is. He will definitely need a guide because the paths may not all be straight and the opportunities and risks may not all be discernible. Wisdom and knowledge are needed that he may not drown in its waters nor be stopped by its mountains but find its honeycombs and walk its streets triumphantly.
There are free offers of guides. One is the Word and the other is the world. The former is Jesus Christ the Light, and, the latter is satan the prince of darkness. Both are competing for our souls as shepherds to take us, as sheep, to the grazing lands of 2018. It will either be to the gentle flowing waters or to the mighty, dangerously turbulent floodwaters. A choice must be made between the two.
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, same is a thief and a robber. But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. … The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10: 1,2,10. Jesus Christ is the true Shepherd that sacrificed Himself for the sheep, satan is the thief, who preys on the sheep.
We need wisdom to choose well. Therefore I warn, as Apostle Paul wrote to the Colossians, ” beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ ” Colossian 2:8. We must choose Christ, let His Cross go before us and make His Word our battle axe. The battle is won or lost when the choice of the shepherd is made.
It will not be a struggle between flesh and blood in year 2018. It will be a fight against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore it is not only unwise but also dangerous to leave the year to chances. We must take authority over it. To take authority over something is to assume the power of control over it. Authority gives the legal right to rule. When you assume authority, the object comes under your sphere of influence. He that has authority over a thing is entitled to hold it in subjection. He will not allow that thing to overwhelm him but rather orchestrate it to his advantage.
When Joshua was taking over the leadership of the Israelites, the promise of God to him was that He would give him anywhere the soul of his foot would touch. He was however required to be bold, strong and courageous with the book of the law in his mouth always. The same deal is real for us today. We must not be careless to misuse or shy away from using the power that Jesus gave believers to tread on serpents and scorpions and over the power of the enemy without been hurt (Luke:19)
Jesus exercised authority over the storm and over sicknesses. He fed thousands of people in miracles of provision, He called money out of the mouth of the fish, He bound and loosed at will, He overcame death and rose from the grave. He spoke as one who has authority. This same Jesus said in John 14:12 “very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the father.” Then, we need not be apologetic nor sit like a lame duck in 2018. We must take authority over it. We can, if we abide in Christ, the Vine, as branches.
I decree and declare authoritatively, in the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that Year 2018 will be a year of praise and thanksgiving. In it, we will sing unto the Lord, gloriously, in celebration of His goodness to us.
Finally, as I pray for all of us to have a peaceful and joyful 2018 in all round prosperity and power of the Holy Ghost, I desire, and, request that you “pray also for me that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the misery of the gospel” -Ephesians 6: 19. Happy New Year.
